Intern-Diversity & Inclusion / Sports Management

The intern for Diversity & Inclusion will work on projects with a focus on Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) for the USOC and National Governing Bodies (NGBs). One of the primary projects for the candidate will be the collection and publication of the USOC/NGB Diversity Scorecards. In addition, the D&I intern will assist with the FLAME summer sports leadership program and undergraduate experiential workshops. The candidate will report directly to the Director for Diversity and Inclusion with supervision provided by the Manager of Diversity and Inclusion with her/his primary functions as outlined below.

The USOC Diversity & Inclusion Intern assists the Diversity & Inclusion department in executing a broad range of D&I related programming for the Olympic & Paralympic movement in the United States. Applicants should have an interest in topics related to diversity and inclusion. This would include, but is not limited to, concepts relating to race / ethnicity, gender and gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, as well as other social identities. Experience relevant to the creation of programs related to cultural competency is desired. Good writing, research and organizational skills; familiarity with the Internet, digital design; and knowledge of Excel or Tableau is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze data as requested by Diversity and Inclusion staff.
  • With the guidance of the USOC D&I staff, support the FLAME summer program and experiential workshops.
  • Assist in coordination of all logistical requirements for programs and workshops.
  • Assist in supervision of program attendees.
  • Assist in other Diversity and Inclusion projects and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Required - Some college or better with some exposure and experience with Diversity & Inclusion initiatives, intersectionality, cultural competencies, and/or social justice work.


    Required - 3 years: Enrolled in a Bachelor degree program at the junior or senior level status, enrolled in a Master degree program, or within 6 months to a year after graduation from a Bachelor or Masters program
  • Standard office equipment
  • Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook
  • Proficiency with internet search capabilities and usage telecommunications equipment, fax machine, copier
  • Office environment in multi-story building site

    Education Preferred

    Bachelors or better in Human Services or related field.
