Program Overview

20 week program from July 11th November 22nd 2017.
25 Hours per week
Minimum of 3 days per week (M-F) 9:30AM 5:30PM and various weekend events

The Event Management Intern will play an integral role in the planning, execution, and evaluation of NYRR Events. You will need to complete a wide range of activities requiring clear, effective communication, critical thinking, leadership, excellent organization skills, and attention to detail. The intern must be able to work well under pressure and timeline constraints, and ultimately ensure the smooth running of an event. This position is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in applying their knowledge and developing their skills in all facets of event coordination.

The interns will be given the chance to explore and gain further understanding in the field of Event Management, with a direct emphasis on the event coordination cycle. In addition, you will be assigned a culminating project to hone your research, analytical, and business skills. To assist with professional development, NYRR will schedule information sessions with key members from other departments, so that all interns will have a full comprehension of the organization. NYRR ultimately wishes to see growth in leadership, confidence, and competency in this specialized field.

-Complete 20-week culminating project as assigned
-Supporting role in the planning and execution of the NYRR Staten Island Half and TCS New York City Marathon
-Assist with planning, coordination, and management of NYRR events from concept to execution, including logistics, timelines, staffing, supply/vendor management, budget management and reconciliation, etc.
-Interact regularly with designated cross-functional teams and external partners
-Assist with conducting post event analysis
-Participates in departmental meetings
-Administrative and other duties as assigned
-Provide race day support for various races throughout program on weekends

Position Requirements

-Completed a minimum of two years in an accredited four-year college degree program, currently enrolled in graduate degree program; preferably studying Sports Management, Hospitality/Tourism, Marketing, or Business, or having just completed an undergraduate or graduate degree program; preferably studying Sports Management
-Excellent written/verbal communication and time management skills
-Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to perform in fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines
-Willingness to travel, work various weekends and extended hours as needed.
-Ability to work as part of a team
-Must be a self-initiator
-Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Focused attention to detail. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Works well under pressure and tight deadlines.
-Ability to lift heavy equipment greater than 35lbs
-Comfortable presenting to organizational senior management
-Must possess unrestricted work authorization
-Must provide full work availability
-Must provide own transportation to/from work
